SONICFLOOd
NASHVILLE - The very foundation of SONICFLOOd is found in
Revelation as John describes all creation, every person who ever lived, every
angel, every creature, of heaven and earth all praising God with every ounce of
their being as "the sound of many rushing waters." To SONICFLOOd
it was this album that brought "a strong desire to dive to deeper
waters," says lead singer Jeff Deyo. "Each of us were at a point
in our lives where we were ready for something different-something meaningful
and eternal." The further their relationship developed, the more
these four men realized that the vision God was giving them individually was the
same. Jeff Deyo, Jason Halbert, Dwayne Larring and Aaron Blanton formed
SONICFLOOd. "We began believing God's hand to be on us, but not
knowing exactly where he would lead us..."
"It is our sole destiny in life to worship God. The angels were worshipping him before man was created, and we will spend eternity worshipping Him. We don't want to wait until Christ returns. We want to start now..."
Within a small venue performance in Nashville, after hearing a modern rendition of "Lord I Lift Your Name on High," Gotee President Joey Elwood spoke to the band about recording a few songs that would specifically capture the passion and emotion of that performance. Jason Halbert reflects, "we originally had a meeting before we went to Gotee to make sure that we would agree as a band and say no to anything more than an EP, but God just flipped us upside down." After much prayer and seeking God, major things began to happen in a short span of time. Now 12 tracks later, God has taken SONICFLOOd 180 degrees.
In May 1998 the band gathered friends, family, and associates together to pray for the launch of the recording. The simplicity of this meeting became an opportunity for God to move. With a quiet prayer, a praise song, and an acoustic guitar, something changed. The closing song on the album, "When the Music Fades," literally captures this moment of prayer and dedication; people became aware of the part they played in building a common vision--God's vision for SONICFLOOd. "It is our sole destiny in life to worship God. The angels were worshipping him before man was created, and we will spend eternity worshipping Him. We don't want to wait until Christ returns. We want to start now..." SONICFLOOd does exactly this in their self-titled release.

Musically, the album is a mixture of modern guitars, real strings, B-3, powerful background vocals and industrial drum loops. In a tidal wave of hooks, danceable beats, powerful ballads, and twisting counter melodies, this record is filled with modern arrangements of praise and worship that speak intimately and directly to God. With a combination of classic, current, and originals, the album includes a modern duet of Bill Gaither's "Something About That Name," "Holiness," and Deliriou5' "I Could Sing" which features Lisa Kimmey-Bragg of Out of Eden. The originals include "My Refuge," "Carried Away," "I Need You," and "Holy One." The self-titled, self-produced album from SONICFLOOd includes the talent of friends like Barry Graul, Mark Townsend, Greg Harrington, Otto Price, George Cocchini, and Wilshire. "The songs on this record are different than songs we've recorded in the past," says guitarist Larring. "You might say they have eternal value, and that's where we want to be."
We aren't going to be doing things a certain way just because it has always been done. We are expecting God to do some radical things as we draw closer to Him. We're completely open to doing things He wants us to do no matter how seemingly ridiculous to human understanding. Jeff states, "Our band has been learning how the Bible teaches that when we worship God with the Tehillah praise (the spontaneous song to the Lord - song from the heart) that God inhabits specifically that praise. I can't think of anything more real and life-changing than that."
