CLEVELAND, TN - When Phil Driscoll was a freshman at Baylor University he formed Baylor's first jazz band. His second year found him recording his debut album with the noted Stockholm Symphony Orchestra. A Touch of Trumpet immediately became a best seller for Word Records. As a senior at Baylor, he won more than a dozen rounds of the CBS talent search series The American College Bowl, winning over Karen and Richard Carpenter in the final competition. By the time he was finished with college he was appearing on "Merv Griffin," "The Steve Allen Show," "The Della Reese Show" and, the show of all shows, "The Ed Sullivan Show."
An accomplished composer and writer, early in his music career, Phil collaborated with such artists as Stephen Stills, .38 Special, Blood, Sweat & Tears and Leon Russell. He also toured with the legendary Joe Cocker in the late 70's, playing piano and trumpet and authoring three of Cocker's hits, Southern Lady, Wasted Years and Boogie Baby. However, in 1978 he left the secular music industry to pursue a calling within contemporary Christian music circles.

In 1982 he released his first Christian album in years. In the past fifteen years since that time he has expanded the boundaries of contemporary Christian music with his artistry, his improvisational ability and technological innovations. Phil has received a Grammy Award and another Grammy nomination, four Dove Awards, seven Reader's Choice Awards, as well as numerous other recognition's of his talents and ministry.
Phil has released albums launching him into most every category of music. His instrumental releases of Classic Hymns, Volume One and Volume Two, and Celebrate Freedom gave him the opportunity to work with the London National Philharmonic Orchestra and perform some of the greatest and most time-sustaining music ever composed. Celebrate Freedom incorporated his instrumental and vocal ability in one of the best-selling patriotic recordings ever produced. The Selah series, Volume One and Volume Two, was released through his private label. "Most High Music," which specializes in releasing music which has been produced spontaneously, and shows the improvisational and jazz renderings of which he is capable. The Picture Changes and The Inner Man, as well as A Different Man, offer the contemporary side of the spectrum with a range from up-tempo rock to heart-felt ballads. A Different Man produced a number one single, Christ Remains. Road to Jerusalem was selected as the theme song for the Jerusalem 3000 Celebration in Israel.
In 1997 Phil recorded a live album, Phil Driscoll: Live With Friends through Word Entertainment. In 1996 Phil built his own state-of-the-art recording studio, Most High Studios, on a 24-acre farm on the outskirts of Cleveland, Tennessee. The studio was designed to provide a place where music could be recorded in a pure environment. His November 1996 release, All Glory, All Honor, was recorded there, and contains the widest array of what his ministry represents.
In what could be termed as one of the defining moments in Phil Driscoll's life, he was three or four years old and his parents were ministering in Lancaster, Texas. Phil was singing a hymn and playing his little horn and a woman came up to the stage and slumped over in tearful prayer. When the child had finished the song he turned to his mother and said, "She came up here while I was playing." His mother replied, "And as long as you are walking with Jesus, Phil, there will be many more."
"There was a time in my life when God wasn't the center of it. Now, I want to reach as many people as possible with my music and tell them what a difference He can make in their lives."
Phil Driscoll spent several years running from his God-ordained purpose. In 1978 destiny reigned and he returned to the Lord and began searching for his place in God's work. In 1982, he founded Mighty Horn Ministries, in Cleveland, Tennessee, to organize his efforts to take Jesus Christ to all the world.
Currently, Phil makes more than 250 appearances annually, touring literally across continents, with performances from South America to Europe to Russia. He has tried to reach everyone he can with his music in an effort to usher them into the presence of the Lord. He has ministered to world leaders by performing at two National Prayer Services in Washington, DC, prior to presidential Inauguration Ceremonies, as well as for Dole's Election campaign, the Tom Skinner Memorial Leadership Conference and the Horatio Algers Awards. These public performances have opened the door for Phil to personally minister to a number of national and international leaders.
In his continuing effort to reach the world with the message of Victory in Jesus, Phil ministered to over 12,000 people in Riga, Latvia, in September and to 1,500 inmates at the Okeechobee State Prison in Florida in October. He has also ministered in Malaysia and Singapore, where his ministry was well-received. In South Africa he ministered with Myles Munroe at the Hatfield Christian Church, as well as in other places. It is the heart of Phil's ministry to take the Word of Christ into all of the world.
In 1996 Phil answered the calling to take the good news into the world via television. The Voice of Praise, his venture into television ministry, is receiving favorable reviews from Christian broadcasters. It airs world-wide on the Inspiration Network (INSP) via satellite as well as in New Mexico, Texas and Georgia. The television show offers a different look at Christianity and has special appeal for the "unchurched" person, as well as the Christian community.
Phil possesses an intense determination to communicate the relevancy of God to a humanistic society. With his instrumental music, he has successfully traversed denominational, cultural and language barriers, and with his vocal efforts, he has bridged pop with Christian. "My basis in operation is that if you have a message, the best way to get it out is to go to the masses with it, and not stay huddled in one niche," he explains. "There was a time in my life when God wasn't the center of it. Now, I want to reach as many people as possible with my music and tell them what a difference He can make in their lives."
